Spotlight on Mr. DIY

I had an important meeting today and the grocery shopping needed tending to so my faithful husband that does most of our grocery shopping hit the store to grab some items I needed to make a yummy homemade lasagna for my dads birthday dinner I am having on Sunday.

When I returned home many hours later he was back with all the groceries put away and had out the OLD sewing machine.

That's right people the sewing machine.

Can you tell the intensity~~~~~he is in the Zone

This guy can use a sewing machine like a power tool.

Now you may ask what was he doing with the sewing machine?

Well he is a Self Defense karate instructor and owner of Concord Kenpo Karate and my Gi needed a patch added.

This is a service he gives to all his students for a very small fee to sew on patches to their Gi.

I being his beloved wife and faithful student needed my name patch sewn on so he decided to sew it on for me of course for freeeeeee.

He is just amazing!

Im a lucky girl

So I just had to grab a few shots, (lighting is bad, sorry) not to mention my outdated camera :(

yes, I made him pose for the shot, I said baby it's for the blog and he said OH of course honey.

See all those patches, thanks to my Mr. DIY or DIFYW "do it for your wife" :) :) I have all my patches to spruce up my Gi ready for Monday's class.

I so think this is comment worthy.  Don't you?

DO tell and share your DIFYW "do it for your wife" moments so we can all oo and ah over our husbands thoughtful acts of kindness.

Share the love!!

Beautiful Day For Projects

Wowzers, what a beautiful Saturday in NC, sunny and upper 60's.  I spent most of the day working on a project or should I say several projects, along side my DIY'er hubby making a saw horse and bee boxes, you say what are these bee boxes you speak of?  That will be for another post.

One project was for my daughter-in law Ashley.  I had made this oh so cute re-purposed ________? have to wait for the reveal, yeah I know how could I do that. I will get around to posting it soon.

Any way back to Ashley, when she saw my re-purposed _________ she loved it and had a dream afterwards that she had ask me to make one for her.  When my son told me last week about her dream how could I not make it for her.  Here is a sneak peak

So I started on it earlier in the week..... with my hunk-el Barry's help we finally got it together and I got to the fun part of painting.  I hope to have her's finished in a few days, if I get busy on it tomorrow after church I might even finish it tomorrow, oh well we shall see.  Then I will reveal!

Project # 2 is a work in progress our outdoor deck patio.  I wanted to make it into an intimate outdoor Living area.  I told hubby my roof idea that was inexpensive so he got that up last week.

I love it, now I have been working on a shabby sign and other details to add to the space. This is another reveal for a later post.  Boy do I have a lot to finish and a lot to post,  I better get busy.

Hey, it's just finding the time to fit it all in, I know you all understand.

So what projects are you working on and waiting to reveal??????    DO TELL

Until next time,

The First Valentine Message

The first Valentine message is the best one ever sent.

This message of love was sent to the world by God the creator. God is love and all expressions of love  started with him. God saw humanity and our need for a savior and out of his love sent his one and only son as a sacrifice in order to restore the fellowship between God and man. When we receive his gift of sacrificial Love which is Jesus, we enter into the family of God.

There are different types of Love, lets explore a few.

Source

Agape, a greek word for love is a love of choice and refers to the will to love instead of an emotion. It seeks the highest good for others freely without expecting or asking anything in return.  God is love and is the foundation of Agape. God is the one and only true God of Love.

Source

Phileo is another type of love which is a friendship love. It is described as a heart to heart connection. A close friend is someone that you trust, you are transparent with and can share your joys your sorrows & your pain. God desires that we love him this way that we can come to him sharing our joys our pains and our sorrows.

Of course he is God and he knows these things about us already but so desires that we come to him and share our hearts like a close friend. The great thing about God is he will never reject you he is in the business of fixing broken things.  He makes beauty out of Ashes.

God speaks of the bride of Christ in his word.  Marriage is the most intimate of all relationships.  You see to have a relationship with someone you have to spend time with them on a regular basis to really know them.  When you fall in love you can't get enough of that person to whom your affections are for. You want to know their likes and dislikes, what makes them happy or sad, their favorite color, favorite meal etc.... You learn all these things by just being with them daily.
Source
A bride and groom long for and anticipate that special day to be near each other always....... to spend life with each other till death do us part.

This is the longing of God's heart that we dwell with him that we are intimate with him, sharing our lives daily with him, getting to know him on a personal level, a personal relationship.

God is infatuated with us and is waiting on us just to be near him .....just to be with him. God wants and desires to dwell with us. He gives us freewill to choose to know him in this intimate way.

I dont know about you but I love to love him and desire to know him more, I mean really know him.  It was love that sent Jesus to the cross and he did it for you and me.  What a beautiful expression of love that was.

Gods Valentine message rings out continually throughout eternity.

You can't make God love you any more than he already does and you can't make him love you any less by anything you have done wrong, his love is unconditional he is just waiting with open arms!

Oh how he LOVES US!

Ever Had A Day Like This?

Have you ever had one of those days when everything that could go wrong went wrong? I got this cute email from a friend.  I don't know if it has been around before in email land but I  thought it was worth sharing. This dialogue will stop and make you think.

Me: God, can i ask you a question?

God: sure.

Me: Promise me You won't get mad.

God: I promise.

Me: why did You let so much stuff happen to me today?

God: what do you mean?

Me: we'll, I woke up late.

God: Yes.

Me: My car took forever to start.

God: Okay.

Me: At lunch, they made my sandwich wrong and i had to wait.

God: Hmmm...

Me: On the way home, my phone went DEAD, just as i picked up a call.

God: Alright.

Me: and to top it all off, when i got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my new foot massager and relax. BUT it wouldn't work!!! Nothing went right today! Why did You do that?

God: Let me see, the death angel was at your bed this morning an I had to send one of My Angels to battle him for your life, I let you sleep through that.

Me (humbled): Oh.

God: I didn't let your car start because, there was a drunk driver on your route that would have hit you if you were on the road.

Me: Oh

God: the first person who made your sandwich today was sick & I didn't want you to catch what they have, I knew you couldn't afford to miss work.

Me (embarrassed): okay.

God: Your phone went dead bcuz the person that was calling was going to give false witness about what you said on that call, I didn't even let you talk to them so you would be covered.

Me (softly): I see God.

God: Oh and that foot massager, It had a shortage that was going to throw out all of the power in your house tonight. I didn't think you wanted to be in the dark.

Me: I'm sorry God.

God: Don't be sorry. Just learn to trust Me in all things, the good and the bad.

Me: I will trust You.

God: and don't doubt that My plan for your day is better than your plan.

Me: I won't God. And let me just tell you God, Thank you for everything today.

God: you're welcome child. It was just another day being your God and I love looking after my children.

End.

When I am having a bad day I try to remind myself of all that I am blessed with and tell myself this too shall pass (it could be so much worse). I know that I am God's child and he is working all things together for the purpose of my well being even when it may not seem so good.

So the next time you are having a bad day, stop and be thankful for all that you have and remember everything happens for a reason we just have to trust in God.

My Repurposed Chair

I saw a ladder back chair driving by a house one day that was used as a planter, can you say, oh so cute. I was inspired!

So there I was on a mission to find an inexpensive ladder back chair so that I could use it to make a flower planter. I certainly was not going to spend much $$ on a chair since it was going to be left outside in the humid, south muggy weather getting, well ya know, all shabby. All the more charm right!

When I found some time to shop, my girlfriend, Kim and I headed over to my favorite thrift antique MALL The Depot, a thrifters dream. Check out my post on it Here.

Anywhoo, off we went, then towards the end of our trip with my dogs a barking I spotted the jewel, she was perfect! The chair was marked down to $6.00 (woot!) one of the back pieces were broken which made it perfect for a repurpose project.....
The Depot at Gibson Mill
Here is the chair before the color it simple. Isn't she pretty........I almost hated to paint her but
pressed on.

If you look at this pic below you will see I have circled the part that was broken.  I ended up just breaking it off  and using something I had kept lying around for a rainy day.

The hardest part of a project for me is simply deciding what color to paint it.  Or what color glaze to add to it.  I mean we crafters have a plethora of choices when it comes to color and design.

OK, the hard part is done so I decided to use yellow and aqua some color samples I had on hand.

Sorry the picture below is blurry. I used my camera phone on all these shots so there ya have it! That's my excuse this time ;)

I decided not to take a lot of pains with this since like I said it would be out in the weather.  So I did not prime it.  I do my projects by trial and error.......that is my best teacher, well OK that and google.

When I put the yellow color over the wood finish I loved that the brown showed through in places especially when I did a light sanding to distress it. Perfect! Then I broke out the aqua color for the seat and two back rungs. Wowzers, it was a little bright so I needed to tone it down a bit.

I added a dry brushing of the yellow over it and she was good to go.

Remember the broken piece on the back of the chair that I took out?  I had a metal scroll candle holder that the candle holder thingy had broken off.  I took that and added a small screw and wa-la! hung it in the center to give it a finished look.

I used a can of spray varnish and coated the chair to help protect it from the elements.

As you can see I just sat my flowers on the seat instead of cutting out the weave of the chair.  I always explain to my so talented hunk-el-barry (aka hubby) what my intentions are and he lets me know if it will work or not. He informed me that cutting it out the way I had envisioned would not work to say the least.

So now I have a much loved repurposed chair flower planter that adorns my front walkway.

Off to color another project simply

PS: Have you ever felt like you were talking to yourself? Well that's me (hand raised) I'm new to blogging in  blogland. So If you landed on my post be so kind as to follow me so we can become acquainted!
